1. Loktak Lake, Manipur

The largest freshwater lake in the north-east, Loktak Lake is a quaint escape from the loud city life. This pristine lake is known for being home to ‘Phumdis’, – floating islands that are known to change shapes and location all through the year. Situated in the valley of Imphal, this lake is 45 km away from Imphal, and connected by Imphal through NH-53. The beauty of Loktak Lake remains unmatched till today.

2. The Secret Lake/Durgam Cheruvu, Telangana

This lake has been named so because it is said that for almost two decades, this lake was hidden, and there were no routes to visit this lake. Today, it is a bliss for nature lovers who wish to take a break from their regular lives and indulge into activities like rock-climbing, bouldering, mini picnic, hiking, scrambling, etc. It’s close to the city of Hyderabad, and takes about 2 hours to reach the lake.

3. Palghar lake, Saphale

Flourishing amid the green mountains, grey clouds, little streams, and cool breeze, Palghar Lake is a perfect weekend getaway for Mumbaikars. This hidden lake is looked after by a community of villagers. If you want to put up a tent there, you will need to acquire their permission. You will be driving on NH-8, and it takes about 2 hours to reach there. This one seems like a perfect getaway for a road trip!

4. Lonar Crater Lake, Buldhana district in Maharashtra

This one has got even NASA scientists scratching their heads for being both alkaline and saline at the same time. It is also known to be earth’s only hyper-velocity impact crater lake. If this didn’t impress you, well, then, you should know that a visit to this place will require a trek through a dense forest. This trek is a haven for wild life enthusiasts and bird lovers, since you get to see a lot of birds, and experience raw wilderness as you march your way to this scenic lake. There is also a partially submerged Shankar Ganesha temple, and many other temples around the lake. The lake can be visited all year except for during the monsoon season.

5. Khecheoparli Lake, Sikkim

Surrounded by caves and a Monastery, this lake is situated at a height of 6,000 ft., and is known for blessing all those who pay a visit to this wish-fulfilling lake. It is also believed that the leaves that fall in the lake are very quickly picked up by birds for some spiritual reason. The idyllic setting of this magical lake will rejuvenate your mind, body and soul to a great degree. Located near Khecheopalri village, it is 147 kilometres west of the popular town Gangtok.

6. Nako Lake, Kinnaur

Set amidst the quaintness of Nako village, this high altitude lake often serves as a resting place for travelers going to Spiti. Sitting near this lake, while admiring the beauty of the majestic Himalayas, will take all your stress away, and will calm your body and soul before you set off for your next adventure! The lake situated in the Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh, is 103 kilometres away from the district headquarter town of Reckong Peo

7. Nigeen Lake, Srinagar

Surrounded by willow and poplar trees, Nigeen (also known as Nagin) lake is a eutrophic body of water and is considered as one of the most beautiful lakes in Srinagar. It is connected to the Dal Lake but is still considered to be separate. Popularly known as the “Jewel in the Ring”, Nigeen lake is comparatively less-crowded than other lakes in Srinagar and is a paradise for those who appreciate peace and tranquillity. Calm water, houseboats, and a cool breeze are what Nigeen Lake is all about.
