Looking to Conquer the Fear (?)

When travelling across India, there are some places one everybody’s list. But, did you know that some of these popular destinations also have (as some believe) a haunted side to them?

Well, if you are not one of the faint hearted, add a freaky factor to your road trips with these spooky places. The stories from these destinations will make your hair stand on end.

Lambi Dehar Mines, Mussoorie

Mussoorie, also known as the Queen of Hills, boosts of lush green hills, the majestic view of the Shivalik ranges and a horror story that will send chills down your spine.

What you might not know about Mussoorie is that thousands of miners lost their lives at the Lambi Dehar mines there. If folklores are to be believed, these mines are now haunted by the spirit of an enchantress. Local residents even claim to hear screams from a distance.

Given the throng of tourists going to Mussoorie, we don’t consider it to be dissuading many. But explore this side of the hill station too if you would like to.

Hotel Fern Hill, Ooty

Ooty – with its sprawling lake and curvaceous roads – is the perfect destination to drive down in any of your Favourite Fords. Closed for business, Hotel Fern Hill has had a history of being haunted. Once a little too bustling during the shooting of a popular Bollywood movie, it is believed that the film crew experienced extremely loud noises coming from the room above theirs. When the sounds got unbearable, they complained to the reception, only to be told that there was no floor above theirs!

Mysterious, right?!

Bhangarh Fort, Ajabgarh, Rajasthan

Rajasthan has so much to offer that one cannot see it all in one go. One of those things is a haunted fort in the ghost town of Bhangarh. The story goes – a magician fell in love with a princess and used black magic to win her over. The princess casts a spell back on the magician, leading to his death. Right before he died, he cast a spell on the fort and its surroundings. The place has been blanketed by gloom ever since!

So much so, the Archaeological Survey of India prohibits entry into the fort after sunset until after sunrise. If you still plan on venturing after sundown, make sure you keep the engine of your Ford Endeavour running!

GP Block, Meerut

What first looked like a group of four friends sitting around a candlelit table later turned out to be 4 spirits haunting a particular abandoned house at GP Block, Meerut.

Visitors are advised not to make eye contact with the four men as they walk past the property nor react if they see a woman in red entering the house or sitting on the roof. This is straight from an eye witness but you can believe what you want!

We are sure these stories have got your heart racing, so make sure you plan a trip or ensure that you don’t let these spots come in your way on your next journey. Because, reading about spooky places is one thing and visiting them is another.
